St. Vincent de Paul Malankara Catholic Cathedral Parish, History

His Excellency the Most. Rev. Thomas Mar Eusebius, Bishop of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Exarchate in USA established the St. Vincent de Paul Malankara Catholic Cathedral Parish, Elmont on Sunday, September 8, 2013, on the Feast of the Nativity of Mother Mary at the St. Vincent de Paul Church in Elmont, New York. The Holy Eucharistic celebration was presided over by His Beatitude Moran Mor Baselios Cardinal Cleemis, Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church. The decree establishing the Cathedral Parish was read out by His Excellency the Most Rev. Thomas Mar Eusebius, Bishop of the Exarchate. Rev. Fr. Sathyan Antony, Rev. Fr. Abraham Lukose, Mr. Johnson Daniel and Mr. Saji Thomas (the Pastor, Associate Pastor, Secretary and Treasurer respectively of the Parish) together received the decree from His Excellency.

The Cathedral parish for the Exarchate was formed as the following two neighboring parishes in the Syro-Malankara Catholic Exarchate were brought together:

  • St. John Chrysostom Malankara Catholic parish, Long Island, and
  • St. Basil’s Malankara Catholic parish, Queens.
