Patriarch Ignatius Zakka Of Antioch and All East Enters Eternal Rest

Syro-Malankara Catholic Apostolic Exarchate in USA offers prayerful condolences on the demise of His Holiness Moran Mor Ignatius Zakka I, Patriarch of the Universal Syriac Church of Antioch and of all the East. We cherish the legacy of the late Patriarch for His sincere efforts to promote ecclesial harmony and ecumenical spirit between the Catholic Church and the Syriac Orthodox Church. The historic declaration between the two Heads of the Churches regarding sharing liturgical facilities and sacramental participation in extra-ordinary situations is one of the greatest achievements of ecumenism in recent times. His Holiness is also remembered for His participation in the Second Vatican Council as an official observer and also for His warm and sincere relationship with the Successors of St. Peter in Rome. May the Holy soul of His Holiness Moran Mor Ignatius Zakka I rest in peace.
