11th Syro-Malankara Catholic Family Convention of North America: Rooted in Christ and Sacred Traditions
The Hilton Parsippany in New Jersey became a hub of spiritual rejuvenation and communal joy as the Syro-Malankara Catholic community of North America gathered for its 11th Family Convention. From July 20th to 23rd, 2023, this triennial event embraced the central theme of "Rooted In Christ, and Sacred Traditions," captivating hearts and fostering a deep sense of unity among attendees.
The convention saw an impressive turnout, with families travelling from various parts of North America to participate in this momentous occasion. The event served as an opportunity for families to strengthen their bonds, enhance their faith, and commemorate the rich heritage of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church. The Eparchy was blessed to have the Head and Father of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church, His Beatitude Moran Mor Baselios Cardinal Cleemis Catholicos, His Excellency Thomas Mor Eusebius, the Eparch of Parassala, His Excellency Matthews Mor Polycarpos, the Auxiliary Bishop of the Major Archeparchy of Trivandrum, and His Excellency Antony Mor Silvanos, Bishop of the Major Archepiscopal Curia, present for all the days of the Convention. The Eparchy also was blessed to have Most Reverend Kurt Burnette, the Bishop of Eparchy of Passaic attend as well.
Numerous spiritual sessions and workshops were held, catering to various age groups and interests. From engaging youth programs that addressed contemporary challenges to sessions for the elderly that focused on preserving cultural heritage, every attendee found avenues to enhance their spiritual lives.
The convention's liturgical celebrations were the heart of the event. Daily Holy Mass, liturgical processions, and prayer services were held with great devotion and splendour. The Eucharistic celebrations reinforced the essence of the Syro-Malankara tradition, emphasizing the importance of sacraments and the Holy Qurbana.
In a colourful display of the Syro-Malankara heritage, cultural performances showcased traditional music, dance, and art. Attendees were enthralled by the richness of their cultural roots and the unity it brought to their diverse community.
