Malankara Catholic Youth Movement Delegation Returns Inspired from WYD 2023

The Malankara Catholic Youth Movement (MCYM) North American delegation has returned with renewed enthusiasm and inspiration from the World Youth Day (WYD) 2023 event. The pilgrimage, which took place from August 1 - 6 in Lisbon, Portugal, brought together young Catholics from around the world for a week of spiritual enrichment and community building.

Under the leadership of Rev. Fr. Jerry Mathew and Rev. Fr. Babu Madathilparambil, the MCYMNA delegation comprised 6 dedicated and enthusiastic young individuals (Anisha John, Samson Zachariah, Stacy Zachariah, Joel Abraham, Mariel Sajan, and Kripa Simon).

Rev. Fr. Michael Edathil, Sr. Jocelyn Edathil, Binu Abraham, Matt and Linda Kuriakose, and Tania Joseph were also participants at WYD 2023. Their journey was marked by a series of engaging events, including Masses, prayer sessions, workshops, and discussions that centred around this year's theme, "Mary arose and went with haste» (Lk 1:39)"

The delegates from MCYM actively participated in various activities that aimed to deepen their faith, foster intercultural connections, and address contemporary issues faced by young Catholics. They had the opportunity to engage in thought-provoking dialogues on topics such as social justice, environmental responsibility, and the role of youth in the Church's mission.

One of the highlights of the pilgrimage was the presence of His Holiness, Pope Francis, who addressed the attendees with words of encouragement and hope. The MCYM delegation was fortunate to be among the thousands gathered to hear his message, which emphasized the importance of embracing one's faith and taking an active role in shaping a more just and compassionate world.

Upon their return, the MCYM delegation expressed their gratitude for the unforgettable experience. They shared their determination to implement the insights gained from WYD 2023 within their local communities. The delegates emphasized the importance of unity, empathy, and a renewed commitment to their faith as they work towards building a brighter future.

MCYM's participation in WYD 2023 not only enriched the lives of the delegates but also invigorated the entire Eparchy with a renewed sense of purpose. The youth have returned as ambassadors of faith and positive change, ready to inspire others with their experiences and learnings.
