Canadian Syro-Malankara Catholic Family Conference in Calgary, Alberta: A Resounding Success
The Canadian Syro-Malankara Catholic Family Conference held in Calgary, Alberta, from June 29 to June 30, 2024, witnessed enthusiastic participation and vibrant activities to foster community spirit and spiritual growth among the Syro-Malankara faithful across Canada.
The conference started on June 29 with a flurry of activities to connect families and foster a sense of community. Registration was followed by ice-breaking activities that set a warm tone for the event. Participants then tested their knowledge and wit in a quiz competition that covered topics ranging from the life of Mar Ivanios to Bible studies and the history of the Catholic Church. A spirited liturgical singing competition showcased the musical talents within the community.
The day's highlight was the grand inauguration ceremony graced by His Excellency Bishop William McGrattan, the Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Calgary, alongside the esteemed presence of the Eparchial Bishop, Most Rev. Philipos Mar Stephanos. The inaugural session was marked by prayers and reflections, underscoring the conference's theme of unity and faith. As the day drew to a close, attendees gathered for evening prayer, followed by a communal dinner and a cultural program that celebrated the rich traditions and heritage of the Syro-Malankara community.
Continuing the momentum on June 30, the second day commenced with a wholesome breakfast and morning prayer, setting a reflective tone for the day's proceedings. A series of workshops and panel discussions delved into the challenges faced by Syro-Malankara families in Canada, addressing issues of cultural integration, family dynamics, and spiritual growth. These sessions provided a platform for open dialogue and mutual support among attendees.
The conference culminated with the Holy Qurbono, a solemn and sacred moment when families gathered in prayer and communion. The valedictory session followed, featuring the presentation of souvenirs and the distribution of prizes to recognize outstanding contributions and achievements throughout the conference.
With hearts full of gratitude and renewed spirit, attendees departed from the conference carrying cherished memories. They strengthened bonds, ready to continue their journey of faith and service within the Syro-Malankara Catholic community in Canada.
