Rev. Fr. Jobin Thomas Awarded Licentiate in Canon Law from St. Paul University, Ottawa, to Begin Doctoral Studies in Fall 2025

The St. Mary Queen of Peace Syro-Malankara Catholic Eparchy in the USA and Canada extends heartfelt congratulations to Rev. Fr. Jobin Thomas on the successful completion of his Licentiate in Canon Law (JCL) from St. Paul University, Ottawa, a prestigious Pontifical institution affiliated with the University of Ottawa.
Fr. Jobin has demonstrated exceptional dedication throughout this rigorous four-year program, successfully balancing intensive academic study with ongoing pastoral responsibilities. The Licentiate in Canon Law, conferred by the authority of the Holy See, represents a distinguished ecclesiastical qualification that prepares him for serving the Church in various capacities as a canonist, particularly within judicial, administrative, and consultative roles in ecclesiastical tribunals and diocesan frameworks.
In light of the increasing demand for qualified canon lawyers within Eastern Catholic jurisdictions in North America, Fr. Jobin’s achievement marks a significant contribution to the mission and life of our Eparchy. His expertise in Canon Law will be crucial in supporting the Church’s justice initiatives, particularly in addressing marriage nullity cases, pastoral governance matters, and ensuring the protection of rights for the Christian faithful.
In recognition of his academic excellence and unwavering commitment to ecclesial service, Fr. Jobin has been accepted into the Doctorate in Canon Law (JCD) program at St. Paul University, which he will commence in the Fall of 2025. This advanced study will further enhance his capacity to contribute not only to the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church but also to the greater universal Church with insights anchored in integrity and fidelity.
As a community, we join in gratitude to God for this remarkable accomplishment. We pray that the Holy Spirit continues to guide Fr. Jobin as he embarks on this new chapter of service to the People of God. We trust that his ministry as a canonist will yield abundant fruits in the life of the Church and that his example will inspire others to pursue the noble call to holiness and intellectual excellence.
