Blessing of St. Thomas Syro-Malankara Catholic Church & Sanctuary, London, Canada

On August 31, 2025, the parish family of St. Thomas Syro-Malankara Catholic Church in Dorchester (London) joyfully gathered to celebrate the blessing of their newly renovated church and sanctuary. The ceremony was presided over by the Eparchial Bishop, His Excellency Most Rev. Dr. Philipos Mar Stephanos, accompanied by a number of priests, religious sisters, and nearly 300 faithful attendees.
A particularly significant moment during the event was the presentation of an Apostolic Blessing from His Holiness Pope Francis, symbolizing the Holy Father’s close bond with the parish and his spiritual support for the community.
Following the liturgical celebrations, a public gathering was held. Notably, Member of Parliament Andrew Lawton (Elgin—St. Thomas—London South) attended the event, offering his congratulations and recognizing the parish’s valuable contributions to both the spiritual and cultural life of the region. He also presented a certificate of congratulations on behalf of the Federal Government of Canada.
Rt. Rev. Msgr. Peter Kochery Corepiscopo, the pioneer of the Syro-Malankara Missions in Canada, delivered a heartfelt address, while Very Rev. Dr. Saji Mukkoot, the Chancellor of the Eparchy, was also in attendance.
The seeds of the parish’s mission were planted in 2016 by Rev. Dr. Gigi Philip, who began by organizing small prayer services and later celebrated occasional Holy Qurbono for the faithful. This vision came to fruition through the dedicated efforts of Rev. Fr. Abraham Lukose, who secured the church building in 2024, and Rev. Fr. Jobin Thomas, who oversaw the renovation process and led the day’s blessings.
With immense gratitude, the parish looks toward the future, committed to growing in faith, serving the youth, welcoming new families, and continuing to be a beacon of Christ’s light within the Dorchester–London region.
“How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord of hosts!” (Psalm 84:1).
