The Good Friday Service

His Excellency the Most Rev. Thomas Mar Eusebius, Bishop of the Exarchate officiated the Good Friday services at the St. Vincent de Paul Malankara Catholic Cathedral Parish in Elmont. The service started at 8.00 am. and was concluded at 2.30 pm. Rev. Fr. Sathyan Antony, Rev. Fr. Abraham Lukose and Rev. Fr. Cyril Andand OIC concelebrated with His Excellency. In the rather lengthy liturgy of the Good Friday in the Malankara tradition, the whole event of the passion and death of our Lord Jesus Christ, starting from his trial before Pilate and ending with his burial, is beautifully enacted with rich images and symbols and meaningful prayers and hymns. The central image of the whole service is the cross which represents our Lord who suffered, died and rose back to life.
