Special Significance:
Transfiguration of Our Lord (M'thala)
Anniversary of the Episcopal Ordination of Bishop Geevarghese Mar Timotheos

Mt 17:1-8

The Transfiguration of Jesus.* 1a After six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, and led them up a high mountain by themselves.* 2* b And he was transfigured before them; his face shone like the sun and his clothes became white as light. 3* And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, conversing with him. 4Then Peter said to Jesus in reply, “Lord, it is good that we are here. If you wish, I will make three tents* here, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” 5c While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud cast a shadow over them,* then from the cloud came a voice that said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.” 6* When the disciples heard this, they fell prostrate and were very much afraid. 7But Jesus came and touched them, saying, “Rise, and do not be afraid.” 8And when the disciples raised their eyes, they saw no one else but Jesus alone.

Dt 16:13-17

Feast of Booths. 13h You shall celebrate the feast of Booths* for seven days, when you have gathered in the produce from your threshing floor and wine press. 14You shall rejoice at your feast,i together with your son and daughter, your male and female slave, and also the Levite, the resident alien, the orphan and the widow within your gates. 15For seven days you shall celebrate this feast for the LORD, your God, in the place which the LORD will choose; since the LORD, your God, has blessed you in all your crops and in all your undertakings, you will be full of joy.

16Three times a year,j then, all your males shall appear before the LORD, your God, in the place which he will choose: at the feast of Unleavened Bread, at the feast of Weeks, and at the feast of Booths. They shall not appear before the LORD empty-handed, 17but each with his own gift, in proportion to the blessing which the LORD, your God, has given to you.

Zec 14:16-21

The Future: Jerusalem, Judah, and the Nations. 16Everyone who is left of all the nations that came against Jerusalem will go up year after year to bow down to the King, the LORD of hosts, and to celebrate the feast of Booths.* j 17Should any of the families of the earthk not go up to Jerusalem to bow down to the King, the LORD of hosts, then there will be no rain for them. 18And if the family of Egypt does not go up or enter, upon them will fall the plague,l with which the LORD strikes the nations that do not go up to celebrate the feast of Booths. 19This will be the punishment of Egypt and the punishment of all the nations that do not go up to celebrate the feast of Booths.

20On that day, “Holy to the LORDm will be written on the horses’ bells.* The pots in the house of the LORD will be as the basins before the altar. 21Every pot* in Jerusalem and in Judah will be holy to the LORD of hosts. All who come to sacrifice will take them and cook in them. No longer will there be merchants in the house of the LORD of hosts on that day.

Ps 46:1-5

1For the leader. A song of the Korahites. According to alamoth.*

2God is our refuge and our strength,

an ever-present help in distress.a

3*Thus we do not fear, though earth be shaken

and mountains quake to the depths of the sea,

4Though its waters rage and foam

and mountains totter at its surging.b

Selah

5*Streams of the river gladden the city of God,

the holy dwelling of the Most High.c

Is 61:1-4

1* The spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me,

because the LORD has anointed me;

He has sent me to bring good news to the afflicted,

to bind up the brokenhearted,

To proclaim liberty to the captives,

release to the prisoners,a

2To announce a year of favor from the LORD

and a day of vindication by our God;

To comfort all who mourn;b

3to place on those who mourn in Zion

a diadem instead of ashes,

To give them oil of gladness instead of mourning,

a glorious mantle instead of a faint spirit.

They will be called oaks of justice,

the planting of the LORD to show his glory.

4They shall rebuild the ancient ruins,

the former wastes they shall raise up

And restore the desolate cities,

devastations of generation upon generation.c

2 Pt 1:16-21

16We did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming* of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we had been eyewitnesses of his majesty.f 17For he received honor and glory from God the Father* when that unique declaration came to him from the majestic glory, “This is my Son, my beloved, with whom I am well pleased.”g 18We* ourselves heard this voice come from heaven while we were with him on the holy mountain. 19h Moreover, we possess the prophetic message that is altogether reliable. You will do well to be attentive to it, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. 20* Know this first of all, that there is no prophecy of scripture that is a matter of personal interpretation, 21for no prophecy ever came through human will; but rather human beings moved by the holy Spirit spoke under the influence of God.

Heb 12:18-24

18* You have not approached that which could be touched*l and a blazing fire and gloomy darkness and storm 19and a trumpet blast and a voice speaking words such that those who heard begged that no message be further addressed to them,m 20for they could not bear to hear the command: “If even an animal touches the mountain, it shall be stoned.”n 21Indeed, so fearful was the spectacle that Moses said, “I am terrified and trembling.”o 22No, you have approached Mount Zion and the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and countless angels in festal gathering,p 23and the assembly of the firstborn enrolled in heaven,* and God the judge of all, and the spirits of the just made perfect,q 24and Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and the sprinkled blood that speaks more eloquently* than that of Abel.r

Lk 9:28-36

The Transfiguration of Jesus.* 28q About eight days after he said this, he took Peter, John, and James and went up the mountain to pray.* 29While he was praying his face changed in appearance and his clothing became dazzling white. 30And behold, two men were conversing with him, Moses and Elijah,* 31* r who appeared in glory and spoke of his exodus that he was going to accomplish in Jerusalem. 32Peter and his companions had been overcome by sleep, but becoming fully awake, they saw his glory* and the two men standing with him.s 33As they were about to part from him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good that we are here; let us make three tents,* one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” But he did not know what he was saying. 34* While he was still speaking, a cloud came and cast a shadow over them, and they became frightened when they entered the cloud. 35* t Then from the cloud came a voice that said, “This is my chosen Son; listen to him.” 36After the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. They fell silent and did not at that time* tell anyone what they had seen.
