Mid-West Regional Family Conference

The first of the three Regional Family Conferences planned for the current year in the Eaprchy was held in Chicago from June 23 to 25. Around 75 families attended the Conference from our three parishes in the region, namely Chicago, Detroit and Toronto. Rev. Babu Madathilparambil, the Pastor of our Parish in Chicago was the Chief Coordinator of the Conference. Mr. Benjamin Thomas of the Chicago parish served as the General Convener. MCYM Weekend Getaway

The MCYM-East Regional Board held the first ever "MCYM Weekend Getaway" at Camp Poyntelle Lewis Village, Pennsylvania on June 16-18. It was a three day event from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon conducted to give the youth above the age of 18 from the Eparchy an opportunity to spend time with each other in a relaxing and fun picnic-like atmosphere. The event featured events such as Hiking, Ultimate  Frisbee, and bonfire along with short talks by Fr. Michael Edathil, Sr. Jocelyn Edathil, and Fr. Jerry Mathew and daily Mass.

Consecration of the Cathedral Sanctuary

The renovated sanctuary of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Cathedral of the St. Mary, Queen of Peace Eparchy was consecrated on March 25, on the great Feast of Annunciation. The liturgy of the consecration was presided over by His Beatitude Moran Mor Baselios Cardinal Cleemis with His Excellency Thomas Mar Eusebius and His Excellency Joseph Mar Thomas as the concelebrants. His Eminence Timothy Cardinal Dolan preached the homily during the liturgy. Around fourteen bishops representing different Catholic Dioceses from and around New York participated in the event. The ceremony started at 3.00 pm.

Toronto Mission Elevated as a Parish

The St. Mary’s Malankara Catholic Mission of Toronto is elevated as a Parish in the St. Mary, Queen of Peace Syro-Malankara Catholic Eparchy in the USA and Canada. On February 26, during the celebration of the Holy Mass, Rev. Father Gigi Philip read out the decree of His Excellency the Most Rev. Dr. Thomas Mar Eusebius, elevating the mission to the status of a parish. Reverend Gigi Philip, the first pastor of the parish, then handed over the decree to Mr. Mathew Kuthiravattom and Mr. Babu Mamoottil, the secretary and the treasurer of the parish respectively.

Mid-West Regional Family Conference Registration Kick Off

In the current year, the Eparchy has scheduled three Regional Family Conferences in three regions of the Eparchy, namely, the North-East, Mid-West and the South-West. The Mid-West Regional Conference is to be held on June 23, 24 and 25 in Chicago under the auspices of the St. Mary’s Syro-Malankara Catholic Parish in Chicago. Rev. Fr. Babu Madathilparambil is appointed the Convener of the Conference. From the parish, a team of volunteers under the leadership of Mr. Benjamin Thomas and the parish council will help Fr. The St. Mary, Queen of Peace Syro-Malankara Catholic Eparchy in the USA & Canada extends hearty congratulations and prayerful best wishes to His Excellency Most Rev. Dr. John O. Barres, who has been installed as the fifth bishop of the Diocese of Rockville Center. Bishop Barres, who was formerly the bishop of the Diocese of Allentown in Pennsylvania, was appointed bishop of Rockville Center on December 9, 2016 by His Holiness Pope Francis. Parish Establishment in Washington DC

The St. Mary’s Syro-Malankara Catholic Mission in Washington DC was raised as a Parish in the St. Mary, Queen of Peace, Syro-Malankara Catholic Eparchy in the USA and Canada on September 11, 2016 on the occasion of the celebration of the Feast of the Nativity of St. Mary. On September 11, at 11.00 am, His Excellency the Most Rev. Thomas Mar Eusebius celebrated the fest day Holy Mass for the community and during the Holy Mass, he read out the decree, establishing the parish. Hearty Congratulations to Reverend Sr. Jocelyn Edathil SIC

On Saturday, August 6, 2016, on the feast of the Transfiguration, Jocelyn Edathil made her religious profession as a member of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Imitation of Christ in the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church. The liturgical service was held during the celebration of the Holy Qurbono at the Syro-Malankara Catholic Cathedral, Elmont, New York. The Holy Qurbono and the liturgy of the Religious Profession were presided over by His Excellency Dr. Thomas Mar Eusebius. Sr.

Sisters’ Annual Retreat

The annual retreat of the Reverend Sisters serving in the Eparchy was held from July 10 to 15, 2016 at the Don Bosco Retreat Center, Rockland, New York. Reverend Father Joseph Puthenpurackal OFM Cap. preached the retreat. Around 15 Sisters attended the retreat. On July 14, His Excellency Bishop Thomas Mar Eusebius visited the Sisters and addressed them.

Malankara Catholic Convention and the Mar Ivanios Day Celebration

The customary Malankara Catholic Convention of 2016 was held at our Cathedral in Elmont on July 8,9 and 10. The convention was preached by Reverend Fathers Jospeh Pthenpurackal OFM Cap. and Reverend Father Sebastian Anchumuri VC. A large number of our faithful attended the convention. The Syro-Malankara Catholic Eparchy in the US and Canada conducted the commemoration of Servant of God Mar Ivanios on July 10, 2016 at the Cathedral of the Eparchy. His Excellency Thomas Mar Eusebius presided over the Holy Mass which was concelebrated by around 10 priests of the Eparchy.
