Pastoral Council Meeting held on January 13, 2018

The Pastoral Council was convened on January 13, 2018 to discuss matters related to the upcoming Syro-Malankara Catholic Convention in Stamford, Connecticut. This was the first Pastoral Council under the leadership of Bishop Philipos Mar Stephanos after becoming the bishop of the Eparchy. The Pastoral Council discussed the details of the venue and elected Chairperson and Secretary for each of the committees necessary for the planning and preparation of the Convention.

Blessing of the new Daughters of Mary Convent in Yonkers

The new Daughters of Mary Convent of the Marthandom Province in Yonkers was blessed on November 19, 2017. The convent was blessed by Most Rev. Dr. Philipos Mar Stephanos and was attended by priests and Rev. Sisters including Msgr. Peter Kochery, Rev. Fr. Augustine Mangalath, Mother Provincial Rose Francis, Rev. Fr. George Ooonnoony, Rev. Fr. Noby Ayyaneth, Rev Fr. Jos Kandathikudy, Rev. Fr. Deny Pulivelil, Rev. Fr. Jerry Mathew, Sr. Ancillin, and Sr. Divya.

St. Thomas Malankara Catholic Church of New Jersey Sanctuary Rededication

The renovated sanctuary consecration of the recently purchased St. Thomas Malankara Catholic Church was presided over by His Excellency Most Rev. Dr. Philipos Mar Stephanos, Bishop of St. Mary, Queen of Peace Syro-Malankara Catholic Eparchy of USA and Canada on Saturday, November 11, 2017, with Most Rev. Dr. Kurt Burnette, Bishop of Byzantine Catholic Eparchy of Passaic as the concelebrant. The Pastor and entire parish community was truly blessed to have many of the Northeast Malankara priests, Rev. Sisters Benedica and Jocelyn participate during the solemn service.

Bishop Philipos Mar Stephanos installed as the second bishop of the Eparchy

The installation of Most Rev. Dr. Philipos Mar Stephanos as the second bishop of St. Mary, Queen of Peace Eparchy in the United States and Canada was held on 28 October 2017 at 3 pm at St. Vincent De Paul Syro-Malankara Catholic Cathedral, Elmont, New York. Following the Holy Qurbono for the Installation at 10 am, the Sunthroniso service commenced at 3 pm with the liturgical reception given for His Beatitude Moran Mor Baselios Cardinal Cleemis Catholicos, Bishop Philipos Mar Stephanos, along with fourteen bishops from both the Eastern and Western rites of the Catholic Church. Farewell to Most Rev. Dr. Thomas Mar Eusebius

A farewell meeting was conducted to express the gratitude of the Eparchy to Most Rev. Dr. Thomas Mar Eusebius upon his departure to the newly erected Parassala diocese. The meeting was conducted on October 28, 2017 at St. Vincent DePaul Syro-Malankara Catholic Church, Elmont, following the Holy Qurbono for the installation of the new bishop, Bishop Philipos Mar Stephanos.

Pastoral Council Meeting

On September 2, 2017, the Pastoral Council meeting was held at 10 am in the Bishop’s House, Elmont, NY. In the meeting, the Council was informed of the accounts until August 15, 2017. The Council, along with the Secretaries and Treasurers of the parishes, also discussed the plans for the Installation of the new bishop on October 28 and proposed the amounts that needed to be collected from each parish according to their strength.

North-East Regional Family Conference 2017

The second of the three Regional Family Conferences planned for the current year in the Eparchy was held at the Syro-Malankara Catholic Cathedral, Elmont from August 5 to 6. The theme selected for the Conference is ‘Cast your net into the deep’. Rev. Dr. Jose Mariadas OIC was the chief resource person for the adult group. Around 310 faithful attended the Conference from our parishes in the region, namely Cathedral, Yonkers, Rockland, New Jersey, and Philadelphia. Rev. Fr. MCYMNA Leadership Camp 2017

The MCYM Leadership Camp was held at Summit Lake Camp at Emmitsburg, Maryland on August 17 to 20, 2017. The theme of the Camp was Timothy 4:12 - “Let no one look down on your youthfulness, but rather in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity, show yourself an example of those who believe.” The event consisted of participants from throughout USA and Canada from as south as Houston, Texas to as north as Toronto, Canada. Talks were given by Marriana Leahy from the Culture Project, Christopher Thomas from Toronto parish, and Fr. Jerry Mathew.
