Liturgical Season:

Prv 3:1-12

1My son, do not forget* my teaching,

take to heart my commands;

2For many days, and years of life,a

and peace, will they bring you.

3Do not let love and fidelity forsake you;

bind them around your neck;

write them on the tablet of your heart.

4Then will you win favor and esteem

before God and human beings.

5Trust in the LORD with all your heart,

on your own intelligence do not rely;

6In all your ways be mindful of him,

and he will make straight your paths.

7Do not be wise in your own eyes,b

fear the LORD and turn away from evil;

8This will mean health for your flesh

and vigor for your bones.

9Honor the LORD with your wealth,

with first fruits of all your produce;c

10Then will your barns be filled with plenty,

with new wine your vats will overflow.

11The discipline of the LORD, my son, do not spurn;d

do not disdain his reproof;

12* For whom the LORD loves he reproves,

as a father, the son he favors.e

Eph 2:11-22

One in Christ.* 11Therefore, remember that at one time you, Gentiles in the flesh, called the uncircumcision by those called the circumcision, which is done in the flesh by human hands, 12were at that time without Christ, alienated from the community of Israel* and strangers to the covenants of promise, without hope and without God in the world.j 13But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have become near by the blood of Christ.k

14* For he is our peace, he who made both one and broke down the dividing wall of enmity, through his flesh,l 15abolishing the law with its commandments and legal claims, that he might create in himself one new person* in place of the two, thus establishing peace,m 16and might reconcile both with God, in one body, through the cross, putting that enmity to death by it.n 17He came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near,o 18for through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father.p

19So then you are no longer strangers and sojourners, but you are fellow citizens with the holy ones and members of the household of God,q 20built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets,r with Christ Jesus himself as the capstone.* 21Through him the whole structure is held together and grows into a temple sacred in the Lord;s 22in him you also are being built together into a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.t

Mk 8:14-21

The Leaven of the Pharisees. 14d They had forgotten to bring bread, and they had only one loaf with them in the boat. 15* He enjoined them, “Watch out, guard against the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.” 16They concluded among themselves that it was because they had no bread. 17When he became aware of this he said to them, “Why do you conclude that it is because you have no bread? Do you not yet understand or comprehend? Are your hearts hardened?e 18Do you have eyes and not see, ears and not hear? And do you not remember,f 19when I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many wicker baskets full of fragments you picked up?” They answered him, “Twelve.” 20“When I broke the seven loaves for the four thousand, how many full baskets of fragments did you pick up?” They answered [him], “Seven.” 21He said to them, “Do you still not understand?”
