Dt 31:16-20

A Command to Moses. 16The LORD said to Moses, Soon you will be at rest with your ancestors, and then this people will prostitute themselves* by following the foreign gods among whom they will live in the land they are about to enter.l They will forsake me and break the covenant which I have made with them. 17m At that time my anger will flare up against them; I will forsake them and hide my face from them; they will become a prey to be devoured, and much evil and distress will befall them. At that time they will indeed say, “Is it not because our God is not in our midst that these evils have befallen us?” 18Yet I will surely hide my face at that time because of all the evil they have done in turning to other gods. 19Now, write out this songn for yourselves. Teach it to the Israelites and have them recite it, so that this song may be a witness for me against the Israelites. 20For when I have brought them into the land flowing with milk and honey which I promised on oath to their ancestors, and they have eaten and are satisfied and have grown fat, if they turn to other gods and serve them, despising me and breaking my covenant,

Heb 2:10-18

10For it was fitting that he, for whom and through whom all things exist, in bringing many children to glory, should make the leader to their salvation perfect through suffering.g 11He who consecrates and those who are being consecrated all have one origin. Therefore, he is not ashamed to call them “brothers,” 12saying:

“I will proclaim your name to my brothers,

in the midst of the assembly I will praise you”;h

13and again:

“I will put my trust in him”;

and again:

“Behold, I and the children God has given me.”i

14Now since the children share in blood and flesh, he likewise shared in them, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil,j 15and free those who through fear of death had been subject to slavery all their life. 16Surely he did not help angels but rather the descendants of Abraham; 17therefore, he had to become like his brothers in every way, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest before God to expiate the sins of the people.k 18Because he himself was tested through what he suffered, he is able to help those who are being tested.

Jn 12:27-36

27“I am troubled* now. Yet what should I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour’? But it was for this purpose that I came to this hour.u 28Father, glorify your name.” Then a voice came from heaven, “I have glorified it and will glorify it again.”v 29The crowd there heard it and said it was thunder; but others said, “An angel has spoken to him.”w 30Jesus answered and said, “This voice did not come for my sake but for yours.x 31Now is the time of judgment on this world; now the ruler of this world* will be driven out.y 32And when I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw everyone to myself.”z 33He said this indicating the kind of death he would die. 34So the crowd answered him, “We have heard from the law that the Messiah remains forever.* Then how can you say that the Son of Man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of Man?”a 35Jesus said to them, “The light will be among you only a little while. Walk while you have the light, so that darkness may not overcome you. Whoever walks in the dark does not know where he is going.b 36While you have the light, believe in the light, so that you may become children of the light.”c
