Jn 21:15-19

Jesus and Peter.* 15When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter,* “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?”* He said to him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Feed my lambs.” 16He then said to him a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Tend my sheep.” 17He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was distressed that he had said to him a third time, “Do you love me?” and he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” [Jesus] said to him, “Feed my sheep.i 18* Amen, amen, I say to you,j when you were younger, you used to dress yourself and go where you wanted; but when you grow old, you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.” 19He said this signifying by what kind of death he would glorify God. And when he had said this, he said to him, “Follow me.”k

Ex 15:1-8

1Then Moses and the Israelites sanga this song to the LORD:*

I will sing to the LORD, for he is gloriously triumphant;

horse and chariot he has cast into the sea.

2My strength and my refuge is the LORD,

and he has become my savior.b

This is my God, I praise him;

the God of my father, I extol him.

3The LORD is a warrior,

LORD is his name!

4Pharaoh’s chariots and army he hurled into the sea;

the elite of his officers were drowned in the Red Sea.*

5The flood waters covered them,

they sank into the depths like a stone.c

6Your right hand, O LORD, magnificent in power,

your right hand, O LORD, shattered the enemy.

7In your great majesty you overthrew your adversaries;

you loosed your wrath to consume them like stubble.

8At the blast of your nostrils the waters piled up,

the flowing waters stood like a mound,

the flood waters foamed in the midst of the sea.

Wis 1:12-16

12Do not court death* by your erring way of life,

nor draw to yourselves destruction by the works of your hands.

13Because God did not make death,l

nor does he rejoice in the destruction of the living.

14For he fashioned all things that they might have being,

and the creatures of the world are wholesome;

There is not a destructive drug among them

nor any domain of Hades* on earth,

15For righteousness is undying.* m

16It was the wicked who with hands and words invited death,

considered it a friend, and pined for it,

and made a covenant with it,

Because they deserve to be allied with it.n

Jos 6:8-14

8When Joshua spoke to the people, the seven priests who carried the ram’s horns before the LORD marched and blew their horns, and the ark of the covenant of the LORD followed them. 9In front of the priests with the horns marched the picked troops; the rear guard followed the ark, and the blowing of horns was kept up continually as they marched. 10But Joshua had commanded the people, “Do not shout or make any noise or outcry until I tell you, ‘Shout!’ Then you must shout.” 11So he had the ark of the LORD circle the city, going once around it, after which they returned to camp for the night.

12Early the next morning, Joshua had the priests take up the ark of the LORD. 13The seven priests bearing the ram’s horns marched in front of the ark of the LORD, blowing their horns. Ahead of these marched the picked troops, while the rear guard followed the ark of the LORD, and the blowing of horns was kept up continually. 14On this second day they again marched around the city once before returning to camp; and for six days in all they did the same.

Is 63:1-6

1Who is this that comes from Edom,

in crimsoned garments, from Bozrah?

Who is this, glorious in his apparel,

striding in the greatness of his strength?

“It is I, I who announce vindication,

mighty to save.”a

2Why is your apparel red,

and your garments like one who treads the wine press?b

3“The wine press I have trodden alone,

and from the peoples no one was with me.

I trod them in my anger,

and trampled them down in my wrath;

Their blood spurted on my garments,

all my apparel I stained.

4For a day of vindication was in my heart,

my year for redeeming had come.c

5I looked about, but there was no one to help,

I was appalled that there was no one to lend support;

So my own arm brought me victory

and my own wrath lent me support.d

6I trampled down the peoples in my anger,

I made them drunk in my wrath,

and I poured out their blood upon the ground.”

Acts 13:26-41

26“My brothers, children of the family of Abraham, and those others among you who are God-fearing, to us this word of salvation has been sent. 27The inhabitants of Jerusalem and their leaders failed to recognize him, and by condemning him they fulfilled the oracles of the prophets that are read sabbath after sabbath. 28For even though they found no grounds for a death sentence, they asked Pilate to have him put to death,k 29and when they had accomplished all that was written about him, they took him down from the tree and placed him in a tomb.l 30But God raised him from the dead,m 31and for many days he appeared to those who had come up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem.n These are [now] his witnesses before the people.* 32We ourselves are proclaiming this good news to you that what God promised our ancestors 33he has brought to fulfillment for us, [their] children, by raising up Jesus, as it is written in the second psalm, ‘You are my son; this day I have begotten you.’o 34And that he raised him from the dead never to return to corruption he declared in this way, ‘I shall give you the benefits assured to David.’p 35That is why he also says in another psalm, ‘You will not suffer your holy one to see corruption.’q 36Now David, after he had served the will of God in his lifetime, fell asleep, was gathered to his ancestors, and did see corruption.r 37But the one whom God raised up did not see corruption. 38You must know, my brothers, that through him forgiveness of sins is being proclaimed to you, [and] in regard to everything from which you could not be justified* under the law of Moses, 39in him every believer is justified.s 40Be careful, then, that what was said in the prophets not come about:

41‘Look on, you scoffers,

be amazed and disappear.

For I am doing a work in your days,

a work that you will never believe even if someone tells you.’”t

Eph 6:18-24

Constant Prayer. 18With all prayer and supplication, pray at every opportunity in the Spirit. To that end, be watchful with all perseverance and supplication for all the holy onesn 19and also for me, that speech may be given me to open my mouth, to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospelo 20for which I am an ambassador in chains, so that I may have the courage to speak as I must.p

A Final Message.* 21So that you also may have news of me and of what I am doing, Tychicus, my beloved brother and trustworthy minister in the Lord, will tell you everything.q 22I am sending him to you for this very purpose, so that you may know about us and that he may encourage your hearts.r

23Peace be to the brothers, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 24Grace be with all who love our Lord Jesus Christ in immortality.s

Jn 21:1-14

The Appearance to the Seven Disciples. 1* After this, Jesus revealed himself again to his disciples at the Sea of Tiberias. He revealed himself in this way.a 2Together were Simon Peter, Thomas called Didymus, Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, Zebedee’s sons,* and two others of his disciples. 3* Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.” They said to him, “We also will come with you.” So they went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.b 4When it was already dawn, Jesus was standing on the shore; but the disciples did not realize that it was Jesus.c 5Jesus said to them, “Children, have you caught anything to eat?” They answered him, “No.”d 6So he said to them, “Cast the net over the right side of the boat and you will find something.” So they cast it, and were not able to pull it in because of the number of fish. 7So the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord.” When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he tucked in his garment, for he was lightly clad, and jumped into the sea. 8The other disciples came in the boat, for they were not far from shore, only about a hundred yards, dragging the net with the fish. 9* e When they climbed out on shore, they saw a charcoal fire with fish on it and bread. 10Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish you just caught.” 11So Simon Peter went over and dragged the net ashore full of one hundred fifty-three* large fish. Even though there were so many, the net was not torn.f 12Jesus said to them, “Come, have breakfast.” And none of the disciples dared to ask him,* “Who are you?” because they realized it was the Lord. 13Jesus came over and took the bread and gave it to them, and in like manner the fish.g 14* This was now the third timeh Jesus was revealed to his disciples after being raised from the dead.
