Liturgical Season:
Special Significance:
V Sunday after Qyomtho
Syro-Malankara Catholic Laity Day

Jn 16:12-15

12“I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now. 13* But when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth.h He will not speak on his own, but he will speak what he hears, and will declare to you the things that are coming. 14He will glorify me, because he will take from what is mine and declare it to you. 15Everything that the Father has is mine; for this reason I told you that he will take from what is mine and declare it to you.

Dt 16:10-12

10You shall then keep the feast of Weeks* for the LORD, your God, and the measure of your own voluntary offering which you will give shall be in proportion to the blessing the LORD, your God, has given you. 11You shall rejoice in the presence of the LORD, your God, together with your son and daughter, your male and female slave, and the Levite within your gates, as well as the resident alien, the orphan, and the widow among you, in the place which the LORD, your God, will choose as the dwelling place of his name.g 12Remember that you too were slaves in Egypt, so carry out these statutes carefully.

2 Sm 5:9-12

9David took up residence in the fortress which he called the City of David. David built up the city on all sides, from the Millo toward the center.g 10David became ever more powerful, for the LORD of hosts was with him.h 11i Hiram, king of Tyre, sent envoys to David along with cedar wood, and carpenters and masons, who built a house for David.j 12David now knew* that the LORD had truly established him as king over Israel and had exalted his kingdom for the sake of his people Israel.

Prv 10:1-13

1The Proverbs of Solomon:

A wise son gives his father joy,

but a foolish son is a grief to his mother.* a

2Ill-gotten treasures profit nothing,

but justice saves from death.* b

3The LORD does not let the just go hungry,

but the craving of the wicked he thwarts.*

4The slack hand impoverishes,

but the busy hand brings riches.c

5A son who gathers in summer is a credit;

a son who slumbers during harvest, a disgrace.

6Blessings are for the head of the just;

but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.*

7The memory of the just serves as blessing,

but the name of the wicked will rot.*

8A wise heart accepts commands,

but a babbling fool will be overthrown.*

9Whoever walks honestly walks securely,

but one whose ways are crooked will fare badly.

10One who winks at a fault causes trouble,

but one who frankly reproves promotes peace.

11The mouth of the just is a fountain of life,

but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.

12Hatred stirs up disputes,

d but love covers all offenses.*

13On the lips of the intelligent is found wisdom,

but a rod for the back of one without sense.*

Is 28:23-29

23* Give ear and hear my voice,

pay attention and hear my word:

24Is the plowman forever plowing in order to sow,

always loosening and harrowing the field?

25When he has leveled the surface,

does he not scatter caraway and sow cumin,*

Put in wheat and barley,

with spelt as its border?

26His God has taught him this rule,

he has instructed him.

27For caraway is not threshed with a sledge,

nor does a cartwheel roll over cumin.

But caraway is beaten out with a staff,

and cumin with a rod.

28Grain is crushed for bread, but not forever;

though he thresh it thoroughly,

and drive his cartwheel and horses over it,

he does not pulverize it.

29This too comes from the LORD of hosts;

wonderful is his counsel and great his wisdom.m

Acts 13:44-52

Address to the Gentiles. 44On the following sabbath almost the whole city gathered to hear the word of the Lord. 45When the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy and with violent abuse contradicted what Paul said. 46u Both Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly and said, “It was necessary that the word of God be spoken to you first, but since you reject it and condemn yourselves as unworthy of eternal life, we now turn to the Gentiles.* 47For so the Lord has commanded us, ‘I have made you a light to the Gentiles, that you may be an instrument of salvation to the ends of the earth.’”v

48The Gentiles were delighted when they heard this and glorified the word of the Lord. All who were destined for eternal life came to believe, 49and the word of the Lord continued to spread through the whole region. 50The Jews, however, incited the women of prominence who were worshipers and the leading men of the city, stirred up a persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them from their territory. 51w So they shook the dust from their feet in protest against them and went to Iconium.* 52The disciples were filled with joy and the holy Spirit.

Col 3:1-11

Mystical Death and Resurrection.* 1If then you were raised with Christ, seek what is above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.a 2Think of what is above, not of what is on earth. 3For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.b 4When Christ your life appears, then you too will appear with him in glory.

Renunciation of Vice.* 5Put to death, then, the parts of you that are earthly:c immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and the greed that is idolatry.* 6Because of these the wrath of God* is coming [upon the disobedient].d 7By these you too once conducted yourselves, when you lived in that way. 8But now you must put them all away:* anger, fury, malice, slander, and obscene language out of your mouths.e 9Stop lying to one another, since you have taken off the old self with its practicesf 10* and have put on the new self, which is being renewed, for knowledge, in the image of its creator.g 11Here there is not Greek and Jew, circumcision and uncircumcision, barbarian, Scythian,* slave, free; but Christ is all and in all.h

Jn 16:16-24

16“A little while and you will no longer see me, and again a little while later and you will see me.”i 17So some of his disciples said to one another, “What does this mean that he is saying to us, ‘A little while and you will not see me, and again a little while and you will see me,’ and ‘Because I am going to the Father’?” 18So they said, “What is this ‘little while’ [of which he speaks]? We do not know what he means.” 19Jesus knew that they wanted to ask him, so he said to them, “Are you discussing with one another what I said, ‘A little while and you will not see me, and again a little while and you will see me’? 20Amen, amen, I say to you, you will weep and mourn, while the world rejoices; you will grieve, but your grief will become joy.j 21When a woman is in labor, she is in anguish because her hour has arrived; but when she has given birth to a child, she no longer remembers the pain because of her joy that a child has been born into the world.k 22So you also are now in anguish. But I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you.l 23On that day you will not question me about anything. Amen, amen, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you.m 24Until now you have not asked anything in my name; ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete.
