Jn 17:1-5

The Prayer of Jesus.* 1When Jesus had said this, he raised his eyes to heaven* and said, “Father, the hour has come. Give glory to your son, so that your son may glorify you,a 2* just as you gave him authority over all people,b so that he may give eternal life to all you gave him. 3* Now this is eternal life,c that they should know you, the only true God, and the one whom you sent, Jesus Christ. 4I glorified you on earth by accomplishing the work that you gave me to do. 5Now glorify me, Father, with you, with the glory that I had with you before the world began.d

Ex 6:1-8

1The LORD answered Moses: Now you will see what I will do to Pharaoh. For by a strong hand, he will let them go; by a strong hand,* he will drive them from his land.

Confirmation of the Promise to the Ancestors. 2* Then God spoke to Moses, and said to him: I am the LORD. 3As God the Almighty* I appeareda to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, but by my name, LORD, I did not make myself known to them. 4I also established my covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the land in which they were residing as aliens.b 5Now that I have heard the groaning of the Israelites, whom the Egyptians have reduced to slavery, I am mindful of my covenant.c 6Therefore, say to the Israelites: I am the LORD. I will free you from the burdens of the Egyptians and will deliver you from their slavery. I will redeem you by my outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgment. 7I will take you as my own people, and I will be your God;d and you will know that I, the LORD, am your God who has freed you from the burdens of the Egyptians 8and I will bring you into the land which I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. I will give it to you as your own possession—I, the LORD!

Jos 1:5-9

5No one can withstand you as long as you live. As I was with Moses, I will be with you:c I will not leave you nor forsake you. 6Be strong and steadfast, so that you may give this people possession of the land I swore to their ancestors that I would give them. 7d Only be strong and steadfast, being careful to observe the entire law which Moses my servant enjoined on you. Do not swerve from it either to the right or to the left, that you may succeed wherever you go. 8Do not let this book of the law depart from your lips. Recite it by day and by night,e that you may carefully observe all that is written in it; then you will attain your goal; then you will succeed. 9I command you: be strong and steadfast! Do not fear nor be dismayed, for the LORD, your God, is with you wherever you go.

Wis 12:1-11

1for your imperishable spirit is in all things!a

2Therefore you rebuke offenders little by little,

warn them, and remind them of the sins they are committing,

that they may abandon their wickedness and believe in you, Lord!

3For truly, the ancient inhabitants of your holy land,b

4whom you hated for deeds most odious—

works of sorcery and impious sacrifices;

5These merciless murderers of children,

devourers of human flesh,*

and initiates engaged in a blood ritual,

6and parents who took with their own hands defenseless lives,c

You willed to destroy by the hands of our ancestors,

7that the land that is dearest of all to you

might receive a worthy colony of God’s servants.d

8But even these you spared, since they were but mortals

and sent wasps as forerunners of your army

that they might exterminate them by degrees.e

9Not that you were without power to have the wicked vanquished in battle by the righteous,

or wiped out at once by terrible beasts or by one decisive word;f

10But condemning them by degrees, you gave them space for repentance.

You were not unaware that their origins were wicked

and their malice ingrained,g

And that their dispositions would never change;

11for they were a people accursed from the beginning.

Neither out of fear for anyone

did you grant release from their sins.h

Is 44:21-28

21Remember these things, Jacob,

Israel, for you are my servant!

I formed you, a servant to me;

Israel, you shall never be forgotten by me:

22I have brushed away your offenses like a cloud,

your sins like a mist;

return to me, for I have redeemed you.

23Raise a glad cry, you heavens—the LORD has acted!

Shout, you depths of the earth.

Break forth, mountains, into song,

forest, with all your trees.

For the LORD has redeemed Jacob,

shows his glory through Israel.

24Thus says the LORD, your redeemer,

who formed you from the womb:

I am the LORD, who made all things,

who alone stretched out the heavens,

I spread out the earth by myself.g

25I bring to nought the omens of babblers,

make fools of diviners,

Turn back the wise

and make their knowledge foolish.

26I confirm the words of my servant,

carry out the plan my messengers announce.

I say to Jerusalem, Be inhabited!

To the cities of Judah, Be rebuilt!

I will raise up their ruins.

27I say to the deep, Be dry!

I will dry up your rivers.h

28I say of Cyrus,* My shepherd!

He carries out my every wish,

Saying of Jerusalem, “Let it be rebuilt,”

and of the temple, “Lay its foundations.”i

Acts 1:12-14

12k Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a sabbath day’s journey away.

The First Community in Jerusalem. 13When they entered the city they went to the upper room where they were staying, Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James son of Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James. 14All these devoted themselves with one accord to prayer, together with some women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers.l

Eph 1:15-23

The Church as Christ’s Body.* 15Therefore, I, too, hearing of your faith in the Lord Jesus and of your love* for all the holy ones,n 16do not cease giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers,o 17that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation resulting in knowledge of him.p 18May the eyes of [your] hearts be enlightened, that you may know what is the hope that belongs to his call, what are the riches of glory in his inheritance among the holy ones,q 19and what is the surpassing greatness of his power for us who believe, in accord with the exercise of his great might,r 20which he worked in Christ, raising him from the dead and seating him at his right hand in the heavens,s 21far above every principality, authority, power, and dominion, and every name that is named not only in this age but also in the one to come.t 22And he put all things beneath his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church,u 23which is his body,* the fullness of the one who fills all things in every way.v

Jn 16:5-11

Jesus’ Departure; Coming of the Advocate.* “I did not tell you this from the beginning, because I was with you. 5But now I am going to the one who sent me, and not one of you asks me,* ‘Where are you going?’d 6But because I told you this, grief has filled your hearts. 7But I tell you the truth, it is better for you that I go. For if I do not go, the Advocate will not come to you.e But if I go, I will send him to you. 8* And when he comes he will convict the world in regard to sin and righteousness and condemnation: 9sin, because they do not believe in me;f 10righteousness, because I am going to the Father and you will no longer see me; 11condemnation, because the ruler of this world has been condemned.g
