World Day of Prayer for Vocations

  • Posted on: 11 May 2025

On this World Day of Prayer for Vocations, the Syro-Malankara Catholic Eparchy of the United States and Canada joins the universal Church in lifting our hearts in prayer for an outpouring of vocations to the priesthood, diaconate, and consecrated life. Instituted by Pope St. Paul VI in 1964, this special day is an invitation to the faithful to pray fervently that more young men and women may hear and respond generously to the Lord’s call to serve the Church.

In a world marked by noise and distraction, the voice of the Good Shepherd continues to echo in the hearts of the faithful, calling them to follow Him in lives of service, sacrifice, and sanctity. Our Lord reminds us: “The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest” (Mt 9:37-38).

Our Eparchy’s Hopeful Witnesses
Today, we give thanks for the gift of vocations already blooming in our midst. We especially commend to your prayers Brother Christopher Thomas and Brother George Thomas Kochumalil, seminarians of our Eparchy who are responding courageously to God’s call.

These young men represent a sign of hope and renewal for the Church. As they continue their formation, may they be strengthened in faith, rooted in prayer, and filled with the fire of the Holy Spirit. Their “yes” echoes the courage of Mary, the obedience of St. Joseph, and the missionary zeal of St. Paul.

Join Us in Prayer, Support, and Giving
We encourage all the faithful—families, youth, religious communities, and parishes—to pray daily for vocations. Let us also accompany our seminarians with encouragement, personal outreach, and practical support. May our homes become “domestic churches” where the seeds of vocation are sown, nurtured, and joyfully lived.

As we pray, we also invite you to partner with us in action. Through our “Support Our Future Shepherds” campaign, your generous contributions help provide essential resources for the formation, education, and spiritual development of our seminarians. Every gift—no matter the size—is a vital investment in the future leadership of our Eparchy.

Together, let us renew our commitment to foster a culture of vocation, where every person discerns how best to respond to the Lord’s personal and loving invitation: “Come, follow Me.”
