2nd Assembly of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Major Archiepiscopal Church

The 2nd Assembly of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Major Archiepiscopal Church started at Catholicate Centre, Pattom, Trivandrum on 8th October 2019, and concluded on October 10th, 2019 with the 25th commemoration of Archbishop Benedict Mar Gregorios. The theme of the Assembly was "Grace filling families. There were 200 representatives attending the Assembly from all the Dioceses, Exarchate and Extra Territorial Regions. His Excellency Most Rev. Dr. Philipos Mar Stephanos attended the Assembly along with the following Eparchial representatives: Rev. Fr. Babu Madathiparambil, Mr. Christopher V.

Visit with The Holy Father

During the Ad Limina visit, His Excellency Most Rev. Dr. Philipos Mar Stephanos had an opportunity to visit personally with the Holy Father and he conveyed the greetings and prayers of the Eparchy to the Holy Father. During the meeting, the Holy Father presented a gift to His Excellency. The Holy Father extended his blessings to the Eparchy.

Ad Limina Visit

On September 23, 2019, the Holy Father Pope Francis received the prelates of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church. The prelates headed by Moran Mor Baselios Cleemis Catholicos, the Father and Head of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church, His Grace Most Rev. Thomas Mar Koorilos, Metropolitan Archbishop of Tiruvalla, Most Rev. Joshua Mar Ignathios, Bishop of Mavelikkara, Most Rev. Joseph Mar Thomas, Bishop of Bathery, Most Rev. Jacob Mar Barnabas, Bishop of Gurgaon-Delhi, Most Rev. Vincent Mar Paulos, Bishop of Marthandom, Most Rev. Samuel Mar Irenios, Bishop of Pathanamthitta, Most Rev.

Presbyteral Council 2019

The Presbyterial Council was conducted in conjunction with the Priests’ retreat at Don Bosco Center, Rockland on August 9, 2019. Various issues regarding the Eparchy were discussed and resolutions were taken in view of the advancement of both infrastructure and practical issues of the Eparchy. Most Rev. Dr. Philipos Mar Stephanos was the Chairperson of the meeting and Msgr. Gigi Philip, the Eparchial Secretary, was the moderator. 16 priests participated in the Presbyteral Council meeting.

Priests' Retreat 2019

The priests of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Eparchy had their annual retreat from August 5 to 9 at the Don Bosco Retreat Center, Rockland. His Excellency Most Rev. Dr. Philipos Mar Stephanos and 21 priests participated in the retreat. The retreat was directed by Fr. Joseph Panthaplamthottiyil, the former Superior General of the CMI congregation, on the topics of faith-based life, Word-based life, and Christ-centered life.

Leadership Retreat 2019 a success!

The MCYMNA Board conducted the Leadership Retreat in Houston, TX from July 25 to 28, 2019. Over 30 youth members participated in this national event. The theme of this retreat was “Faith and the Future” based on 2 Corinthians 4:18 “For what can be seen is temporary but what cannot be seen is eternal.”

New Cor-Episcopoi installed

The sacred priestly honor of ‘Cor-Episcopo’ was conferred to Rt. Rev. Monsignor Peter Kochery and Rt. Rev. Monsignor Augustine Mangalath on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at St. Vincent De Paul Syro-Malankara Catholic Cathedral, Elmont, NY. The service began with liturgical reception, followed by Solemn Holy Qurbono, with the eparchial bishop, Most Rev. Dr. Philipos Mar Stephanos as the main celebrant. The service for the installation of the Cor-episcopoi was celebrated during the Holy Qurbono. The homily was given by Most Rev. Dr.

Meeting with Hon. Amarjeet Sohi

During his visit to the Edmonton mission, His Excellency Philipos Mar Stephanos met with the Honorable Amarjeet Sohi PC MP, an Indo-Canadian politician, currently serving as the Member of Parliament for Edmonton Mill Woods, and the federal Minister of Natural Resources. The Bishop and the Hon. Minister had a fruitful discussion on a variety of subjects related to the development of the Syro-Malankara community in Edmonton.

66th Mar Ivanios Day Celebrated

The 66th anniversary of the heavenly journey of the Servant of God Mar Ivanios was celebrated by the Eparchy on Saturday, July 6, 2019. The celebration was held at St. Vincent de Paul Malankara Catholic Cathedral and included Dhoopa praarthana after Solemn Holy Qurbono. His Excellency the Most Rev. Dr. Philipos Mar Stephanos presided over the liturgical celebration. His Excellency Most Rev. Dr. Kurt Burnette, His Excellency Most Rev. Yoohanon Mar Chrysostom, and His Excellency Most Rev. Jacob Mar Angadiath were present during the celebrations along with Rt. Rev. Msgr.
